About the Speaker

Nancy Bacharach is currently a professor in the department of teacher development at St. Cloud State University. She began her teaching career in Wisconsin and taught at the elementary level for five years. She received her bachelor of science degree from the University of Wisconsin Eau Claire in elementary education, and her masters in education and doctorate in curriculum and instruction from Texas A&M University and has taught for three years in the division for the study of teaching at Syracuse University. Bacharach's major teaching responsibilities focus on reading education, including reading and language arts methods, reading research, and children’s literature. She does frequent training on multiage grouping and is the organizer of an informal support network for multiage teachers. In addition, she is co-director of an experimental Inclusive Teacher Education Project that prepares teachers to work effectively to meet the diversity in our nation’s classrooms. Her research interests includes multiage grouping, inclusive education, multicultural children’s literature, instructional practice in teaching reading, and teachers as researchers.
