About the Speaker
Harvey B. Alvy, currently on the faculty of Eastern Washington University, specializes in educational leadership. He served as a practicing principal for 14 years and his experience in multicultural international schools is extensive. Alvy has served at the American School of Kinshasa in Zaire, the American International School in Israel, the American Embassy School in New Delhi, India, and most recently, the Singapore American School. Before serving as an international educator, Alvy worked as an elementary and high school teacher in U.S. public and private schools. He is a founding member of the Principal’s Training Center for International Schools. Alvy was named National Distinguished Principal for American Overseas Schools by NAESP in 1991. Alvy earned his doctorate from the University of Montana. Alvy conducts national and international seminars, workshops, and presentations on the principalship, ethical leadership, characteristics of great teachers, supervision and evaluation, assisting new teachers, and enhancing teacher growth. He has coauthored two bestsellers with Pam Robbins: If I Only Knew: Success Strategies for Navigating the Principalship (Corwin Press 2002), and The Principal’s Companion: Strategies and Hints to Make the Job Easier (Corwin Press 1998).
